Novell Training

The Novell SUSE LINUX Administration course (Course 3037) teaches students basic SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (SLES 9) administration skills. These skills, along with those taught in the SUSE LINUX Fundamentals (Course 3036) and Advanced SUSE LINUX Administration (Course 3038) courses, prepare students to take the Novell Certified Linux Professional (Novell CLP) certification Practicum Exam.

The third course (3038) in the Linux administration curriculum is Advanced Linux Administration. This course utilizes SLES9 as the Linux distribution upon which attendees learn to conduct more complex administrative skills that are necessary to the health and function of an installed and established small to medium Linux network. The tasks in this course are presented in a logical order that correlates to the networking needs of an established Linux network environment. The course design reinforces knowledge and tasks taught in the course through exercises that build upon previously introduced content and exercises, resulting in accelerated mastery of advanced administrative tasks. This course presents advanced administrative skills common to a mid-to-senior level administrator in an enterprise environment.

Students perform the following SLES 9 administrative tasks:

  • Update and monitor a SLES 9 server
  • Perform administrative tasks with YaST
  • Manage users and groups
  • Provide basic system security
  • Manage the Linux file system
  • Manage software installation
  • Manage system initialization, processes, and services
  • Provide basic network services (such as printing and web access)
  • Remotely access a SLES 9 server

Prior knowledge Before attending this course, you should have fundamental knowledge of SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server (SLES) 9 in a computing environment such as an enterprise or academic environment. This knowledge can be obtained by taking the SUSE LINUX Fundamentals Course 3036.

Who Should Attend?
While the primary audience for this course is the current Novell CNESM or those with similar experience, certification candidates with experience in other operating systems can also use this course to prepare for the Novell Certified Linux Professional (Novell CLP) Practicum Exam.
